Adoption efforts continue for 30 cats at risk of being put down in Taguig condo

Adoption efforts for an estimated 30 to 40 cats living around the condominium complex of SMDC Grace Residences in Taguig City continue amid the condo administration’s plan to round up the felines and put them down after 21 days.

Grace San Diego sounded the alarm on her Facebook post on Feb. 24, where she shared photos of the cats at risk of being captured.

“Knocking on your kind hearts as around 30-40 cats of SMDC Grace Residences (Ususan, Taguig- near new Taguig City Hall) are at risk of being captured and put down. Please please help us find them their forever homes. Message me,” she wrote.

Her post was shared over 7,000 times as of writing, with TikTok content creator Jireh Bratinella also posting a video for awareness.

San Diego later posted an update saying they managed to have 10 cats adopted in two days, with over 20 cats still up for adoption.

The animal welfare group Cats of BGC also shared San Diego’s post, adding that the SMDC administration should look at a trap-neuter-return policy instead of putting the poor kitties to sleep.

“Again, Removing the Cats just creates a vacuum effect. It does not solve the Overpopulation problem. Kapon does. SMDC should support TNR Initiative of their residents. Most of the Cats are already fixed and being cared/fed by volunteers. Rounding them up is cruel to both the community cats and the people who care for them. Also it does not work, #tnrworks!” It wrote.

Those interested in adoption may contact San Diego on Facebook.
