Shady BPO HR manager takes applicant on a roller coaster ride after hiring and rejecting her multiple times

With a still-high inflation rate of 8.6 percent and with over 2 million Filipinos unemployed this year according to the Philippine Statistics Authority, life’s tough. But that probably isn’t license to toy with a job applicant and take her on a roller coaster ride of “will they, won’t they” in a week.

Sarah Marie de Guzman took to Facebook to share her wild experience with Ameritel BPO, a business process outsourcing company in Clark, Pampanga, where she had managed to be hired and rejected for the same role in about a week.

“Don’t apply here anymore. Hahaha,” she wrote in her post.

De Guzman detailed that she had submitted her resume on Feb. 27 and underwent an assessment the next day. On March 1, she came in for a job interview and was informed she had passed the interview on March 3.

Yet on March 4, a human resource employee got in touch with her, saying she did not pass the interview.

“Unfortunately we’ve made a decision again to not move forward with your application after reviewing your application. We don’t think you have a fit position to our company we apologize for this inconvenience i hope you don’t mind if we reach out to you in the future when a position becomes available that may be a better fit,” the employer wrote using questionable grammar.

When asked for a reason why they thought the applicant was not a good fit for the role, the hirer responded with: “Just so you know, there are also a lot of applicants that are for line-up so we can’t assure you that you will be picked since we only have limited slots. The decision still depends on the hiring manager.”

“It took you two days after my interview to email me that I passed the interview, yet you didn’t review my application very well? How come you said I passed the interview and now it’s up to the hiring manager?” De Guzman pressed on.

The employer simply apologized for the matter. Yet two days later, the company sent her a poster telling her that she was hired.

“I would like to confirm [if this email I received] is correct or if I just received this by mistake,” she asked.

The company rep responded and confirmed she was hired, while informing her that the orientation was on the same day, only to be informed afterwards that it was being postponed to a later date.

When asked how long the orientation would take because she had to attend to a medical emergency, the hirer responded with, “For someone with no job does it really matter how long it is?”

Eventually she was sent back another email saying that the hiring manager had changed their mind and was not moving forward with her application.

The wild turn of events had people wondering if the company was legitimate.

“Please verify if the company is legitimate because the emails sound a little off,” one wrote.

“The fact that you didn’t end up working there is a blessing in disguise. If they’re like that to you now as an applicant, what more if you’re hired by the company?” another said.

Others recommended reporting the organization to relevant authorities.

One person claimed to have messaged the company’s page to ask if de Guzman was hired after her viral story, to which it responded with: “Sarah will be [jailed] so probably not going to be hired but maybe after she gets out we will consider it.”

The post has been shared over 35,000 times as of writing.
