Giant twin strawberry shortcake set to be main attraction at Benguet’s Strawberry Festival

In case you need a reason to visit the province of Benguet soon, there may be one: the Philippines’ strawberry capital is set to mark its Strawberry Festival with a giant twin strawberry shortcake.

This year’s Strawberry Festival is the first time Benguet is holding the event three years after the pandemic forced authorities to suspend festivities in 2020 — and it seems that they’re set to celebrate with a bang.

The twin strawberry cake will serve as a festival attraction that residents and tourists can feast on, La Trinidad mayor Romeo Salda said.

The festival will be held from March 6 to 31 this year, the mayor confirmed.

While this could be exciting for strawberry lovers planning to make their trip north, it is far from the first time the town pulled off such a feat. La Trinidad landed the Guinness World Record for the biggest strawberry shortcake in 2004, which weighed 9,622.24 kilograms and fed over 10,000 people.

We won’t know until the festival how gigantic the giant twin strawberry shortcake will be, but Salda said they had no plans of beating their 2004 record.
