Slater Young said that men fantasizing about women in group chats is fine and the internet is pissed

Former Pinoy Big Brother winner Slater Young is in hot water for his comments about men fantasizing about and sharing photos of other women while in a committed relationship.

Slater made his remarks in a recent episode of the skypodcast, which he hosts with his wife, content creator Kryz Uy. 

The controversy stemmed from a letter sent to the couple by an anonymous listener whose boyfriend admitted to fantasizing about other women and engaging in group chats with friends discussing these fantasies. 

Slater responded, stating, “It’s just a matter of fact that there are many other women more attractive than you or just as attractive as you… Those group chats that send photos of girls and fantasizing about it, it’s normal.” The DIY home YouTuber, using a mix of English and Filipino, also shared his own experiences with such group chats and added, “Of course, as part of that group, just go along with it. You’re not actually interested.”

During the podcast, Slater and Kryz advised the letter sender to stop making a big deal out of the issue if her boyfriend had not done anything wrong. “I think you should use that time and energy instead to maybe, not the right word to say, but make yourself more attractive in that sense. Use that time and effort for yourself,” said Uy.

Yet Slater’s comments did not sit well with social media users, who called his comments “triggering” and emphasized that the prevalence of these group chats did not make them acceptable. 

They reminded Slater that women should not be objectified for entertainment purposes and criticized his remarks as examples of toxic masculinity.

Social media users also criticized Kryz for “supporting” her husband’s statement and questioned whether she would tolerate similar actions if they were directed at her.

“How is it normal to have group chats where ‘some’ of your friends randomly send girls’ pics to fantasize [to]? How is talking about wanting to fuck random girls normal to men?? and not considered as cheating??” one user asked.

“At the end of the day, Slater is a man and men do vile things. But ‘normal’ doesn’t mean it’s right. To say ‘Sakyan na lang’ (ride along) is perpetuating and enabling this weird behavior. It’s important to call out this shit so it doesn’t stay normal anymore,” another wrote.

Meanwhile, sexologist Dr. Rica Cruz posed a different take on the matter, underscoring the value of consent.

“This is a reminder that, yes, it’s normal for your husband to fantasize about others, and damn, you can too. BUT to actually condone non-consensual sending of photos of women in [group chats] full of men for them to treat it as pornography is disturbing. Women should stand up for other women,” she wrote.

“It’s one thing to be transparent and honest about what transpires in those group chats. But to not recognize how these behaviors are harmful to women and others and to not use your platform to inspire change is irresponsible and deliberately ignorant.”

Sociologist Ash Presto further highlighted that this behavior constitutes gender-based online sexual harassment and is punishable under the Safe Spaces Act. Presto argued that Young’s comments “encourage and empower sexual predators” while undermining the rights and well-being of women and girls.
