Scorching temperatures in Bicol force universities to conduct blended classes

The scorching temperatures in the Bicol region have prompted two universities to shift to blended classes, which will be implemented immediately until the end of the second semester.

Bicol University President Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres III said in an administrative order that the university will adopt a blended learning modality — a combination of in-person and online classes — starting on April 27.

Students will be consulted on the schedule of face-to-face and online classes — which may be synchronous or asynchronous — as endorsed by the department chair or approved by the dean.

Meanwhile, the Catanduanes State University in Catanduanes province has also announced the implementation of blended learning on campus “for the health and welfare of learners.”

Universities advised their students and staff to wear comfortable but decent clothing when attending face-to-face classes.

Legazpi City in Bicol Region has been experiencing a higher heat index, recording a temperature of 29.6 degrees and a heat index of 36 degrees.
