NAIA Terminal 2 gets tropical makeover

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 just got an aesthetic facelift featuring the work of Filipino artisans and local materials.

The Department of Tourism unveiled the terminal’s new look on social media, featuring locally made furniture such as rattan chairs, solihiya (cane weave) panels, as well as added tropical foliage to give the aesthetic “a distinct Filipino brand.”

The terminal also features tourist information centers, a lounging area with mini-garden, new charging stations, comfortable waiting areas, trees, and plant walls.

That said, the new look earned mixed reactions online — while some praised the terminal’s look, others said that it did nothing to address the systemic and harrowing problems passengers face on a daily basis.

Terminal 2, which for years exclusively served all domestic and international flights of the Philippine Airlines, will be reassigned as an all-domestic terminal as part of the Manila International Airport Authority’s Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization (STAR) Program beginning on April 16.
